Langara Golf Course Review, Vancouver Park Board

by on July 28th, 2011

Langara golf course makes up the trio of full length golf courses operated by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, with McCleery and Fraserview rounding up the rest. What makes Langara special is that it’s one of the closest courses right in the heart of the city, along Cambie and West 49th, making it a popular spot to golf.

We enjoyed a Sunday afternoon round at Langara, which was built in 1926 by the CPR. This par 71 course has decent length at over 6200 yards, with a rating of 68.2 and a slope rating of 120. The course was redesigned by Thomas McBroom and so far the course is in decent shape.

How is playing Langara? The course offers many challenges and is decent for the average golfer, but still a challenge for the seasoned veteran. The greens were rolling quite well on the sunny Sunday, and had sped up due to the heat. If you’re a long bomber, you’ll like Langara as the longest hole is #11 at 493 yards. The shortest par 3 comes in at 122, at hole #8. There are a total of three par 5s, and if you want to increase your challenge play the blues to extend the course.

The pace was pretty good at Langara, and since it’s a relatively ‘shorter’ course, one full round is supposed to take roughly 4 hours and 15 minutes. Oh, and Langara does not have a driving range–so warm up your swing elsewhere!

Here are the rates at Langara Golf Course for Adults (19-64), Seniors (65+), and Youth (up to 18 years):

There are also specials too, cheap rates for those ‘early birds’ willing to play within the first 1-2 hours in the morning, and some decent back nine rates too:

Langara’s hours of operations: dawn till dusk. Call them at 604-713-1816 to book your tee time. Here are their twilight, sunset, and super-sunset times:
