20 Year Old Riley Wheeldon from Comox Earns Canadian Tour Card

by on May 27th, 2011

Some fantastic local news for all your up and coming young golfers out there. Riley Wheeldon from Comox earned his Canadian Tour Card on Friday at the age of 20, and achieved this at the Morningstar Golf Club in Parksville.

Here were his scores: 66 (-6), 74, 78, 73.

“I actually had a very good second day but I finished with a triple bogey and I lost a bit of my confidence,’’ said Wheeldon, who plays at Crown Isle in Courtenay. “My next 27 holes were very sketchy but I pulled it together on the back nine by going 2-under. I was getting stressed out about possibly not getting my card and I just had to settle down and focus.’’

He tied for fourth, but earned his much anticipated card after failing to quality earlier in the year in Palm Springs.Well done Riley, and keep it up!

Isabelle Beisiegal Becomes First Woman to Get Player’s Card on Men’s Pro Tour

Some other inspiring news came out of the same Morningstar Golf Club, this time from Isabelle Beisiegel, who became the first woman to earn a player’s card on the men’s pro tour. The 30 year old Montreal Native tied for 9th, and took one of the two last non-exempt spots.

“I still can’t believe it. It’s a little overwhelming,” Beisiegel said. “I went into today just trying not to get ahead of myself. I focused on thinking about where I was and not what could happen. I was assured in the fact that no matter what happened it was going to be OK.”

See what happens when we practice, practice, and practice? Get out on the links now, folks! 🙂
