Founded in 1922, Uplands Golf Club is one of the oldest courses on Vancouver Island. It is located in Victoria B.C., minutes from The University of Victoria and a block away from stunning Cadboro Bay.
First impressions always start with your experience in the pro shop. I was greeted with the perfect amount of class and comfort. Everything was handled to a “tee”! The rate for 18 holes is $125 or $60 with a member. The course lays out flat and straight, but don’t let that deceive you as the course is very narrow. Fairways are tight and healthily lined with century old Oaks, the greens immaculate, and the rough lush. The front nine does not offer much excitement hazard wise, however the rich heritage shines through.
The back nine is a different story. With a drivable par 4, a risk reward par 5, a picturesque view of the olympic mountains and wildlife roaming you will see and play a little bit of everything. I don’t think I have played a course in such perfect condition as Uplands. The greens crew have done an amazing job.
You have the choice of 4 tee sets, ranging from 5726 yards to 6800 yards. Playing to a par 70 makes scoring difficult, but if you can manage to keep your ball in the fairway you should play well.
If you enjoy playing courses that are in optimal condition, Uplands will not disappoint. They host an annual Canadian Tour event (TC Open) every summer, and PGA Tour Pro Jim Rutledge is a member, keeping the Uplands name very credible. If you’re visiting, or live in Victoria make a case to play Uplands. You won’t be disappointed!
